Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is the evolution of Martial Arts training and application. The Ultimate Fighting Championship, Pride Fighting, World Extreme Fighting, Spike TV’s The Ultimate Fighter and many other reality combat sporting events have helped to raise public awareness about Mixed Martial Arts. The best reality combat athletes in the world are those who cross train in many different fighting styles and Martial Arts systems. These fighters are known for their diversity and adaptability in combat. Fighters who are well versed in stand-up fighting skills, such as Muay Thai and Boxing, and ground fighting, such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), Submission Grappling and Wrestling, have a clear advantage over less diverse, one dimensional fighters. It’s been proven in such events that the “old way” of Martial Arts training, which focuses on only one “range” of fighting, just doesn’t work in No Holds Barred fighting. Traditional Martial Art styles such as Karate and Tae Kwon Do are incomplete styles, which focus too heavily on one area of fighting while ignoring the reality of  “what ifs”. What if the opponent closes the range so kicks are rendered useless? What if the opponent takes the fight to the ground? What if high kicks leave the kicker off balance and vulnerable to a take down? What if the opponent is a better boxer? What if all of that flashy stuff doesn't work?

At EMA, we answer all of these “what ifs” in our street effective Mixed Martial Arts classes. We blend a variety of the practical systems that we teach into a well-developed answer for all of these types of questions. We use the stand-up systems of Muay Thai Kickboxing and Boxing as well as the ground fighting skills taught in our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. Our Muay Thai MMA application uses low line kicks, knees, elbows, clinching and counter clinching. We use our Boxing skills to evade attacks and pick off  our opponent with devastating punches. We then combine our BJJ skills to make the fighter complete by being able to counter  takedowns as well as take an opponent down and submit them with chokes and submissions. This approach creates well-rounded, diverse fighters. Fighters who can adapt to any situation are fighters who win fights. We teach our students the difference between a street fight and sport fighting and how to apply what they learn in any situation to win the fight. To learn more about our street effective Mixed Martial Arts classes and to schedule a Trial Class, call EMA now!
